Hot on the heels of their latest successes with Sigala’s Easy Love and Rumble by KDA, Ministry of Sound are now set to present German DJ outfit Format:B to their label’s ever-growing roster.
After it being originally released last December on their own imprint Formatik Records, Jakob Hildenbrand & Franziskus Sell revealed that Chunky would be seeing its re-release on the Ministry Of Sound label with three brand new remixes and a radio edit.
Format:B are renowned for their energetic tech-house productions, with two studio albums released and their hugely popular Formatik Nacht events at Watergate in Berlin taking off since 2012.
Chunky simply is a ready-made club anthem, fusing the clever use of cowbell during its intro along with early-’90s inspired rave piano stabs. The vocal sample itself is taken from an old classic by California blues rock band Huey Lewis and the News, and Format:B ensured that Chunky bumps and revolves around to the chopped-up sound of, “Hold a shotgun on the rooster!”.
The DJ and radio support for Format:B’s newest output has been widespread ever since Annie Mac named Chunky as her ‘Hottest Record’ earlier this year. Other Radio 1 admirers include Mistajam, Pete Tong and Danny Howard, along with other UK stations also such as Kiss, Capital and Rinse FM all backing Format:B’s thumper of a track.
The EP package sees its release on 13th November, which includes remixes from fellow MoS label mate DJ S.K.T, London-based producer Riva Starr (Snatch! Recs), and a drum & bass touch up from The Prototypes (Viper Recordings).
